Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Hello, my name is Beth Martin and I am the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities coordinator and also the communication Champion here at Canterbury Road Day Nursery

I am supernumerary within the nursery, meaning I am not based in any of the rooms and have the flexibility to support all children, and all practitioners.

Some of the key elements of my role are:

To understand and implement the Code SEND of Practice
Training practitioners to a high standard, helping them to identify any areas of support that might be needed.
Model and coach any strategies that will support children to make progress in any area of need.
To assess the children as part of the graduated approach to ensure early identification and progression.
To liaise with other professionals to ensure all children make progress in their learning and development.
To keep up to date with new knowledge and updates within the sector and disseminate where appropriate.

I am also on hand to provide support, guidance and advice for families. I can support you in the following ways:

1-1 support around the development of your child’s progress.
Communication commitment meetings every term.
Transition meetings
Progression meetings
Weekly email updates on activities
Home learning
