Here at Canterbury Road Day Nursery, we are proud to support the local Trafford-based charity “Once Upon a Smile.” Aimed at supporting young people, Once Upon a Smile provides emotional and practical support at their dedicated child bereavement centre in the event of the most unimaginable situation, the death of a parent or sibling.
Founded by celebrities Danny Miller (Emmerdale’s Aaron Livesy) and Daniel Jillings, the charity recognises that there is a distinct lack of support and care for families trying to navigate a new way of life in light of their loved one dying. Through its team of dedicated bereavement support specialists, the charity provides individual and group support to children and parents alike as well as providing large-scale bereavement workshops in schools across the North West.
Once Upon a Smile is especially close to our hearts as it has provided a lifeline for one of our families, who found themselves in the most tragic situation when the children’s father passed away suddenly.
Sadly, the charity continues to receive a tremendous number of referrals to support recently bereaved children who have lost either a Mummy, Daddy, brother or sister. Funding is crucial more than ever for this invaluable charity to continue helping families in the most unthinkable situation. We are proud to be able to dedicate fundraising events here at the nursery in the name of “Once Upon a Smile” to support the wonderful work they do.
